I'm feeling too good to dwell [24 Apr 2009|12:20pm]
I'll not be updating this journal any longer.

If you wish to know where to find me, let me know and I'll email you.

Otherwise, if the recent changes I've made in my life mean it's too awkward or difficult for us to maintain a genuine, authentic and supportive friendship, then let's just call it a day.

bile [24 Apr 2009|11:15am]
The level of manipulation still sickens me...

When B and I started dating he told me: "I really have no interest in meeting your friends---I have all the friends I need.  I know enough people."  He then managed to isolate me from most of my existing friends over the next 6 years.

I "made friends" with his friends.  But this was a problem for him too in many cases.  Jealousy and distrust tainted everything.  He even went so far as to try to sabotage my friendships with people.

It sickens me that so many of the people he warned me against and told me to stay away from are now the people he's apparently "best friends" with now...  Telling me he didn't like it when I hung out with or even talked to V or Di.  Making my best friend since 3rd grade feel unwelcome.  Telling me that any male friend wasn't to be trusted because there's no way any guy could possibly *only* want to be my friend (as if sex is all I have to offer the world).  FU!

To all the poisonous spiders: Have fun spinning your lies, dripping with the negativity and hatred you nurture in your hearts.

I am the lucky one.

CL SCAM! [26 Mar 2009|12:53pm]

Oh man... So I've been browsing SF apartments... There was a loft posted on CL...  I knew it was too good to be true, but I just HAD to find out what the scam was...  LOL.

Here it is:

Hi again,

Just a few more info. I am asking for 1st month's rent payment plus 1 month as security deposit, it's $3700 in total.  Equal size-2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, 1460 sq. ft., 2nd floor, elevator, washer/dryer in unit, A/C, dishwasher, parking--1 car garage included in the rent. It's fully furnished, but i can rent it unfurnished also, same price if unfurnished,  i will use a moving company. As i said pets are allowed. If you decide to rent it and if something needs to be repaired liked a broken pipe or something you fix/repair it and will deduct the costs form the rent(at this moment everything is new in the apartment, but just in case, i wanted to cover this also). The lenght of the lease is flexible: long/short term. I have to tell you that i am in London, UK, i am here with a job contract for 5 years, i am in my first year now, i come to San Francisco every 6 months for 3 or 4 days and if you rent the apartment i will stay to a hotel. If you want to see the apartment i would send you the keys, a leasing contract-signed by me and proof of ownership by fedex-overnight - COD (cash on deliver - with option to open the package and accept or refuse the merchandise), at the destination address will be my apartment's address and the receiver will be you. So, you have to be at the apartment or in front of the building when FedEx will deliver the package, open the package, take the key, open the door, look at the apartment and if you like it pay the FedEx delivery man the $3700,  FedEx will release the money to me, you sign the lease and you're my tenant :), if  you don't like the apartment FedEx will return the keys and the contract to me and that's it (you pay nothing-i pay all the fees).
If you agree i need your full name and a cell phone number, tomorrow i will go to FedEx and will tell you the exact day and hour when FedEx will be at the apartment..

Thank you.
Ashley

Man, people are so fucked up.

My bleeding liberal heart... [09 Feb 2009|01:43pm]
I signed another moveon petition, and entered in my question and comments...  Agh, I'm ridiculous sometimes.  But, OH WELL!

It is important that financial institutions have strong leadership in the current economic climate.  As the CEO of a key player in the U.S. economy, and the recipient of funds from the U.S. government, what specific examples are you personally setting, and what policies have you introduced to bring reform within your company?

The "American Dream" has become a cliché.  As hard as I and my family work, opportunities have been drying up for quite some time.  It is difficult to stomach the fact that so many take for granted that their multi-million-dollar salaries are a just entitlement when so many are struggling simply to feed their families, keep a roof over their heads, and maintain a sense of stability and sanity in such troublesome times.  The workings of our economic model have dehumanized all of us, at every level of income and class.  The wealthiest people in this country are so far removed from community and social responsibility, so isolated from common reality, that it is impossible for them to make conscientious decisions for the betterment of our nation and our people.  The middle class and the poor struggle with the basic necessities, trying to believe in a two-hundred-year-old promise for which they sacrifice the "now" for the "future," which simply never comes.  What have you sacrificed?  What have you asked your spouses and children to sacrifice, so that we all may survive?

earth [24 Jan 2009|03:42pm]
The only hope i have for this planet is for there to be less of us (and our by-products) and more of everything else.

If I had the power, I'd focus on our educational system:

Environmental Education - for children and parents.  I believe environmental awareness courses should be taught in all schools at various levels.  All children should be required to attend with a parent or guardian - say twice a year in 3rd grade, 6th grade, 9th grade and 12th grade?

Subjects would include recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, water systems, trash systems, as well as eco-conservation on state, national and global levels.

I'm so grateful for the conveniences afforded me by the infrastructures in place that allow me to have someone else haul away my trash, provide me with running water and electricity...  But how aware is the average person about the systems we all rely so heavily upon?  You can tell people that such-and-such is important, but until and unless people understand WHY, and how these systems work, and how it all affects them personally, there is no hope.  This should be part of a federally required curriculum.

Community Involvement & Social Responsibility - Develop a curriculum for high school students, beginning in the 9th grade, to include lecture and study as well as activity.  Have a requirement that in order to advance to the next grade level, and to earn one's high school diploma, one must log a minimum of 60 hours of community service per year.  Diplomas would be pending until this requirement is met, so, if one wanted to wait until graduation, one could get a summer internship and satisfy the hours in 6 weeks, otherwise, it's less than two hours a week during the school year.  Volunteer hours could include tutoring and mentorship, school improvement projects, community improvement projects, community outreach or volunteering with any certified non-profit organization or for certain government programs.  Establishing this requirement would open eyes and minds, providing awareness and paths to social responsibility.

Population Growth Abatement - through education and choice.  Not through mandates.  Raise awareness of the global impact of every modern American's life cycle, and compare to other countries around the globe.  Temper religious-righteous and false-patriotic claims that only large families are the way of god and country, with plain truths about the world we live in today and the one we are currently creating.  If, in order for progress to happen in certain areas of the country, we must include contraceptive information under the umbrella of conscientious marital considerations in order not to be seen as encouraging pre-marital sex, then so be it.

This is where I would start...

Kinda Excited [21 Jan 2009|11:46pm]
Just discovered that CSM offers courses on TV!  I can record the "lectures" and watch them when I get home from work, and attend test sessions on Saturdays...  Unfortunately, the course selection in limited, so I can only hope that they will start offering more of these...

disappointed [16 Jan 2009|10:59pm]

So, I haven't ever gone to the Edwardian Ball, but I've always wanted to... the reason I haven't gone: I lack proper period attire.  If I do something, I want to do it RIGHT.

What disappoints me is seeing photos from previous events - instead of lavish, historically accurate costumes with appropriate accessories, it looks like just another goth dance.

CORSETS WERE STILL CONSIDERED UNDERWEAR AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY, PEOPLE!

I'm sad.

Southern Hemisphere? [10 Jan 2009|04:36pm]
Another reason why working all day Saturday is not fair: listening to a bunch of hooting and hollering girlies in the pool playing marco-polo.  When they errupt with laughter, it sounds like they're going coocoo for cocopuffs.  Such a strange sound.

And I didn't get to enjoy this summery day of winter one bit.

But I am getting paid OT to help pay for the huge vet bills.  Lefty may have diabetes, or a feline genetic disorder, or some other horrible disease or injury that causes him to lay around and limp when he walks.  That's the reason he doesn't go outside like the other kitties.  His symptoms have quadrupled in the past two months.

"As if you could do any better!" [02 Jan 2009|02:39pm]
While this argument may be useful in the context of empathizing with people in positions of power - recognizing and embracing their humanity and imperfections and realizing our own at the same time - by NO means should this statement be made in order to stop a person from criticizing someone in power altogether.

Just because you don't have the answer doesn't mean you don't have the right to ask questions!

Challenge for 2009: shove that complacency out the friggin window already!  Watch it bounce, skid and go SPLAT on someone else's windshield.

Don't you dare file your concerns in the "not to be touched" files just because you don't feel confident as an expert in any particular subject.  And don't believe everything your friends tell you either.  Do some research!  Read, watch, listen and learn.  Putting 2 and 2 together means you need to consider both sides - if not the facts, then the underlying causes for someone to make a particular argument.

Also: if someone is claiming that the sky is green when you *know* it is blue (or gray), don't dismiss that person as crazy, or demand that they submit to your authority on the subject.  Take a pause and consider why this person thinks that what they are saying is true.

These are my personal challenges to myself, and I invite you all to join in the F-U-N!

and in case any of you were still wondering how to categorize my particular kind of crazy:

on my doorstep when i got home today, was a small package.

this is the most excited i've been about a package in quite some time.

inside...

the 4 year supply of toothbrushes i purchased from the amazonian internets.

see, i found this awesome toothbrush several months back... and then never saw again.  it seems that the toothbrush has been discontinued.  so, I figured i needed to stock up!!!

Yay hooray for 24 new toothbrushes with the perfect little rubber waves on the back that actually WORK at the whole tongue-scraping operation!

:)  This is what makes me happy.

This is my brand of crazy.

Thank you.

exxxxxxcuse me [23 Dec 2008|11:40pm]
\while my fingers unthaw...

more adventure than i was hoping for this evening...

the fire alarms going off in my building, so loud... PIERCING my eardrums, forcing everyone out into the cold, cold rain...

noooooootttttttt funnnnnnnnnnnn-nuh.

but interesting self-study --- what I thought about under the premise that there might *actually* be a fire:

If the alarms are puncturing my ears, what must the poor little doggies be going through?
Oh man, what about all the christmas presents I got for everyone?
Damn - my iBook!
Crap - all my clothes.
And I don't have renter's insurance - shit!
I wonder how much time I can take off of work if my apartment burns down?
I should've gone to the basement and taken my car out.  What if I'm stuck out in the cold all night and my car burns up too?

Well.  Obviously none of that is an issue at the present moment.  Phew!  But I'd better move, "Call Insurance Company about Renter's Insurance" priority #1 on my list!  Sheeeeesh!

Most of the time, interviews with famous people make me cringe a bit... this one is actually pretty cool!

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7q9uu_trent-reznor-interview-121308_people

Awww, Trent, if only i could see you every night...  Last Sat's show in Sac was awesome --- great production, the guys rocked, but it was SO strange being in a giant arena with hardly anyone there...  but kinda cool at the same time.  In smaller venues I become a blip on any band's brainwaves when they hear me scream...  Over the years, my voice has come down a few levels, both volume and range, but I still manage to make everyone around me fall down like bowling pins.  :)

Girl going on thirteen... [15 Dec 2008|04:14pm]
My niece will be 13 in January...   She loves to read.  I love that she loves to read...

So, her new "thing" is vampires.

She finished the Twilight series and read everything twice.

Now she wants the Vampire Chronicles...

And, I'm just a little skeptical about whether or not these books are appropriate for her to read yet...

What say you, world?

Foodin' it. [03 Dec 2008|10:59pm]
So, I had a supreme "duh" moment today...  I worked from home because I have teh major congestion goblins in mah headnezz.

I've been torturing myself for 6 years about not knowing how to cook anymore... and, the reality is, I just don't know how to cook non-vegetarian stuff anymore.  And, because I've been stupid and stressing out about it, I've lost touch with all my kitchen skills.  Spending almost 2 years without a kitchen didn't help the situation.  But now that I do have a real kitchen (not grandiose, but real) I'm going to try something "new":

When I'm eating at home, I'll cook myself vegetarian food!  DUH!  And when I need some animal protein, I'll eat out.  Veggie leftovers are usually way better, too.  You can't really over-nuke tofu. heh.  So, I'm not becoming a vegetarian again, but my "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to making meals is getting me nowhere.  As I start getting comfortable in the kitchen again, maybe inspiration will strike and I'll start substituting in chicken or fish - but I'm not going to stress out if that never happens.

One thing I can breathe a sigh of relief about.  :)

For lunch, I did braised tofu and green beans and rice.  It wasn't the best thing ever, but it was edible.  It just made me realize a few basic items I need to keep in the fridge: chopped garlic and ginger sauce.  Then my lunch would have been wayyyyy good.  I learned that most oyster sauces contain ridiculous amounts of carcinogens, so I'll go without.  Even the veggie version made from mushrooms has all kinds of nasty preservatives.  Good thing I always get natural soy sauce - the cheap stuff'll kill ya - damned hydrolyzed soy proteins!

BTW - you're ALL already avoiding hydrogenated oils, aren't you?  ;)  Goodnight my lovelies.

It's that time again!  :)

No mangos, no bananas, no eggplant, no hot stuff (including things that most people call "mild"), and generally not too acidic.

I am asking for you to share with me:

A) Your weekly (or more often) food shopping lists
B) Your favorite *simple* recipes

I still love vegetarian food, so I won't be disappointed with input from my veggie friends, but I would really love some ideas on what the hell to do with meat, fish & poultry - and how to shop for them.  Particular insights for dealing with shopping, cooking and eating for 1 would be most helpful!!!

Reciplease? [18 Nov 2008|07:55pm]
It's not that I don't like food... it's that a lot of "food" doesn't belong in my body.  No mangos, no bananas, no hot stuff (including things that most people call "mild"), and generally not too acidic.

I was a vegetarian for 10 years, from the ages of 11 to 21.  I remember cooking for myself a lot in that decade.  And it's as if those memories have been wiped from my mind.  With the exception of certain boxed foods that were one deadbeat boyfriend's faves, I can't for the life of me recall what the hell I used to do in the kitchen all the time.

I've even purchased a few cookbooks, and though I've flipped through them, I am wholly uninspired by them.

And everyone raves about Trader Joe's.  Srsly?  It's like any other store to me: I have no idea what to look for, get completely overwhelmed and I usually end up leaving with nothing.

So, my dear ones, I am asking for you to share with me:

A) Your weekly (or more often) food shopping lists
B) Your favorite *simple* recipes

Oh, and Joe's not even a flippin plumber! [18 Oct 2008|03:07pm]

FROM MSNBC:

In any event, Obama’s tax plan specifies that the higher rate would apply only to income above the $250,000 threshold. Assuming Wurzelbacher’s income as owner somehow hit $280,000 — the top end of his supposition of the company’s revenue — only the extra $30,000 would be taxed at a higher rate.

Analysts calculated that the extra tax would amount to $900, which would likely be more than offset by separate provisions of Obama’s plan: a 50 percent tax credit for health care and elimination of the capital gains tax for small businesses.

YOUR SMALL BUSINESS WOULD BENEFIT BY OBAMA’S TAX and HEALTH PLANS.

CNN:

Obama explained his tax plan in depth, saying it’s better to lower taxes for Americans who make less money, so that they could afford to buy from his business. John McCain attacked Obama for this exchange, saying the Illinois senator is trying to “spread the wealth around.”

IN OTHER WORDS: WHAT GOOD IS HAVING A BUSINESS IF NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR YOUR SERVICES???

FOXNEWS:

"It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

AGAIN – IF NO ONE CAN BUY WHATEVER YOU’RE SELLING, YOU’RE S.O.L., AND SO ARE THEY.  HENCE THE CURRENT ECONOMY: SALES ARE DOWN, AND THAT WAS ***BEFORE*** THE MORTGAGE & WALLSTREET MELTDOWNS!
